♦ Program Coordinator: Prof. Pierluigi Cocco

♦ Program Vice-Coordinator: Prof. Alessandra Pani

♦ Teaching & Training activities:

Courses – doctorate students will follow courses on basic and specialized topics pertinent to the program, to complement, complete and extend their undergraduate preparation

Seminars – students will attend specialized seminars on a vast range of topics, presented by both international and national scientists

Research – doctoral students will work as active researchers in the participating research groups. Enrolled students will also spend a period abroad, working in the laboratories of groups collaborating with UNICA research teams

♦ Research topics:

Molecular Oncology – genetic/epigenetic alterations in cancer progression, molecular epidemiology of cancer, tissue microenvironment and tumoral microenvironment in the carcinogenic process, prognostic and diagnostic molecular markers correlated to cancer cell biology, cell cycle regulation and cancer

Infectious, Genetic, and Degenerative Diseases – new markers for diagnosis and prognosis using a metabolomic approach, immunological, metabolic and/or redox state alterations/adaptations in the course of pathological processes, cellular and molecular mechanisms of neurotoxicity and neurodegeneration, genetic of the immune response, molecular and functional characterization of genes involved in the pathogenesis of genetic diseases, development of non-invasive prenatal diagnostic technologies, pharmacologic and gene therapy of beta-thalassemia, interactions of pathogens with their host at the cellular and molecular level, development of innovative therapies for infectious, genetic, and neurodegenerative diseases, structural and functional characterization of natural and (semi)synthetic antimicrobial peptides

♦ Duration: 3 years

♦ Working languages: English, Italian

♦ Starting date: 1st January of each year

♦ Admitted students receive, in most cases, financial aid for 3 years, in the form of a fellowship
